Talking loud has never been our style. Which is probably just as well, given that we’re in a library. And let’s face it, the Material ConneXion Library is a pretty awe-inspiring place to be. Respected as one of the world’s most important reference points on materials, it gives a global, cross-industry perspective on materials, design, new product development, sustainability, and innovation.
On top of which, it maintains one of the world’s largest subscription-based materials library with thousands of innovative materials and processes. Making it not only an indispensable asset to a broad business spectrum, but a trusted resource for Fortune 500 companies. So, as you can imagine, we’re thrilled to have yet more fabrics recently added to those we already have in their collection.
The fabrics chosen, and why they were chosen
The ‘why’ is explained by Material ConneXion’s Gayatri Keskar; Senior Material Scientist, Advanced Materials: “Our fabric categories are scientific in nature, but tailored to suit the design community. Including the CORDURA® brand allows us to expand our portfolio and offer a wider variety of durable, cross-functional fabrics to our audience.”
New materials are carefully evaluated based on their unique offerings, cutting-edge innovation and outstanding performance. And that’s why fabrics from our ‘X. Venture Collexion’ caught the attention of the library’s research team. These chosen fabrics are featured in a retro-futuristic line of garments created through a collaborative effort with designer Michele Rose and in concert with Artistic Milliners, our longest running authorized CORDURA® Denim mill.
Apart from our legendary durability – at least four times that of comparable traditional cotton denim* – the CORDURA® Denims in this range feature special performance properties that come from collaboration with Schoeller Technologies on coatings and finishes as well as from the inclusion of fibers like Lenzing Tencel® and Merino wool.
The denims selected are: CORDURA® Denim with Schoeller PCM Technology, CORDURA® Denim with Schoeller ceraspace™ Technology, and CORDURA® Combat Wool™ Denim.
Also chosen for inclusion in the library are two new fabrics made with CORDURA® NYCO fabric technology. Part of the CORDURA® + Cotton Incorporated ‘Performance Naturals’ collection each of these fabrics has a specific Cotton Incorporated product technology blended with durable CORDURA® fiber. TransDRY™ Twill, features a patented, high-performance moisture management technology, whilst STORM COTTON™ French Terry is based on a water-repellent fabric treatment technology. Both engineered with CORDURA® brand durability at the core.
All of the above now join three original fabrics that were chosen for inclusion back in 2013. CORDURA® Naturalle™ fabric - made with high-tenacity, full-dull nylon 6,6 fiber technology. CORDURA® NYCO fabric - designed for clothing that requires an extremely comfortable yet durable and wearable fabric solution. And, original CORDURA® Denim - based on an intimate blend of cotton and INVISTA’S T420 nylon 6.6 fiber.
