Cindy McNaull, our woman of the year

Back in February, we were excited to hear that Cindy had been shortlisted for ’Woman of the Year’ in the Professional Clothing Awards. A brand new trade accolade, introduced to recognise outstanding achievement, commitment and contribution to the industry.

Well, to everyone on the CORDURA® brand team that nomination came as no big surprise. For more than a decade Cindy has been the dynamo that’s energised our brand – driving the expansion of the CORDURA® brand from its heritage in military and outdoor applications to today’s durable performance textile powerhouse. Packing more than 25 years of passion and experience, she’s brought her unique creativity and ability to the role of global CORDURA® brand and marketing director.

Big night, big successes for the CORDURA® brand

Hosted by Kanya King MBE, the Awards Ceremony in June proved to be one of the great global networking events of the year – and we were happy to applaud Jacqueline N. Sioen-Zoete of Sioen Industries NV, who edged past the winning post on the night. And we also had plenty of success to celebrate ourselves, with products featuring CORDURA® brand fabric up there among the contenders.

These included Flametougher 280AS, an advanced new fabric for flame retardant workwear from UK-based Carrington Workwear Ltd, a protective/defence textile specialist exporting to markets in more than 75 countries worldwide. Engineered with CORDURA® NYCO fabric technology to provide abrasion resistance, Flametougher 280AS, was ‘Highly Commended’ in the ‘Best Fabric and Fiber Innovation’ category – a category that Carrington also won with a new multifunctional workwear fabric.

Another winner we’d like to congratulate was Magnum, who picked up ‘PPE Innovation of the Year’ for their Elite Shield Met Boot. This is a company we’re already working closely with, and are looking forward to helping them achieve even greater success with a new collaboration launch later this year.

Cindy steps up to the mike

The highlight of the night for the CORDURA® brand team came when Cindy’s official status was announced as ‘Highly Commended’ nominee for the Woman of the Year Award 2017. And in a warmly welcomed speech, Cindy took the opportunity to say a big ‘thank you’ to the whole industry with which we’re so closely involved.

She talked about the importance we attach to the power of close collaboration with our many partners – and why 2017 was such an important milestone in our history. Our 50th Anniversary, in fact. Marked by our Global Roadshow celebrating our Core of Durability heritage - and showcasing 50 fabulous new things as it rolls out around the world.

In what turned out to be a very fitting gesture, Cindy was presented with a special bottle of vintage port, personalised with her name on the label. The port was going on for fifty years old, so what better way to celebrate our 50th Anniversary Year!

‘Please raise your glasses . . . and wish CORDURA® a Happy Birthday!’

With everyone in the party mood, Cindy ceremonially cut our gigantic Birthday cake and Toastmaster Reuben Lynch led the whole audience in a chorus of ‘Happy Birthday!’.

So as you can imagine, it was quite a night, and we have to admit that we love these high profile industry events. But not just for the excitement and glamour. What’s far more important is that it’s a way for us to reflect on the special collaborations and partnerships that lead us to these achievements.

Just the fact of being nominated also tells us we must be doing something right. For our collaborators, for our customers, and for the industry we’re so proud to be part of.
And, of course, for every single one of our own people. The ones who’ve delivered winning results day in and day out, throughout the whole of 2017.

A footnote on these famous awards . . .
