The result of an intensive two-year-long research and design project made its debut at the start of this 50th anniversary year for the CORDURA® brand. A state-of-the-art, patent-pending high tenacity fiber designed to enhance the core strength of CORDURA® fabrics was introduced. The new INVISTA T420HT fiber technology is the result of technical advancement which has allowed INVISTA to design and commercialize the strongest nylon-6,6 staple fiber it has ever produced..
Causing great excitement, the introduction of the new high tenacity INVISTA T420HT fiber technology means INVISTA’s scientists have successfully achieved one of the greatest leaps forward in its nylon-6,6 innovation pipeline, a significant upgrade to its capability portfolio which dates back to the initial commercialization of the fiber at the company’s flagship Seaford, DE, USA staple nylon 6,6 production facility.
Coming in the CORDURA® brand’s 50th anniversary year, it’s a truly momentous milestone. Here’s how it’s described by Anthony Green, global CORDURA® brand business director:
“At INVISTA, an on-going dedication to innovation is in our DNA. Our latest INVISTA T420HT technology launch is one in a series of new qualifying CORDURA® brand fiber breakthroughs to come as we continue to push the boundaries of durable possibilities.”
Already making an impact, CORDURA® NYCO (Nylon/Cotton) fabric blends based on the new INVISTA T420HT high tenacity fiber have been adopted by a major international military. They’re also undergoing extensive wear trialling for next generation combat uniforms.
The mission for INVISTA T420HT fiber is to create a platform for a new generation of durable, yet lightweight fabrics – such as CORDURA® NYCO Extreme, and CORDURA® NYCO Tactical fabrics. Textiles designed to help set new standards in many applications such as military uniforms, outdoor apparel and workwear.
These new generation lightweight durable fabrics are quickly gaining attention with big consumer brands. Dickies is the first, using the new fiber in its “Dickies PRO™ with CORDURA® military-grade fiber technology” workwear. An exciting new collection available online from Fall 2017.
